We love to eat good food.  Often.  Okay – all the time.  So, when we go out, it’s all about good food.  And we may be a bit picky when it comes to choosing a place.  Not that it has to be pricey, or “fancy”;  it just has to live up to what food should be.  This is why for a recent outing in Denver, we called on our good friend Telly who gave us so many excellent suggestions it was almost painful to choose only one.  But we were greatly rewarded.  It’s not very often you have a dining experience that knocks you off your feet, course after course. But we did at Olivéa.

Spicy Pumpkin Miso Soup with Udon

It was after midnight, and I should have been sleeping. Instead, I was staring at a photo of a bowl of broth with some noodles, and the words “udon with pumpkin miso broth and veggies.” It was posted on Amy’s website, and it was one of her favorite meals during her family’s trip to Japan last spring. It sounded delicious! Several days passed, and I just couldn’t get it out of my head. So yesterday, my mission became this: create a soup with some flavors from the Far East, featuring the fresh little pumpkin I bought last week, because this is pumpkin season, after all. Time to start cooking with the famous squash.

Pueblo Chile Festival

The third weekend of September is a very happy time for us! Specifically because Pueblo, Colorado, hosts its annual Chile Festival. The people of Pueblo thoroughly embrace this wonderful tradition, but surprisingly, it remains very much a secret to most of Colorado. Luckily for us, we have family in Pueblo (John and Amy) who introduced us to the Chile Festival three years ago, and we have been going back for more every year since. Continue reading
